Last night at the Coffs Bypass Group’s general meeting we talked about the imminent release of the EIS and the importance of a ‘Construct Only’ project NOT a ‘Design & Construct’ project.
The Toowoomba bypass is a fantastic example of what we don’t want. The article from 2015 below, highlights how the project can be changed if it’s a ‘Design & Construct’ project.
The image BELOW is what happened instead of a tunnel.
From the article on the Toowoomba Bypass:
“A 30-metre deep cutting through the Great Dividing Range replaces the planned tunnel in the winning design announced Friday morning for Toowoomba’s $1.6 billion four-lane Second Range Crossing project.
“The Toowoomba tunnel will not be,” Mr Truss said.
“The project tenderers have all preferred to build a series of cuttings rather than build a tunnel,” he said.”
