the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery was bursting at the seams for the opening of New Year New Work on Friday night.
Showcasing the work of over 50 local artists, sponsored by over 50 businesses, the show revealed a broad diversity of creative works from across the Coffs Coast region.
Presented by the Friends of the Gallery, the ambitious fundraising initiative raised $10,000 in sponsor funds which allows the volunteer group to grow the gallery’s collection and support gallery projects.
Artists were winners too with many of the works selling on the night and the rare opportunity to mix with the local business community and fellow artists.
As 230 guests spilled out onto the street, the Friends were heartened by the attendance of some local politicians, showing their interest in the contribution of culture to the local community.
Council’s General Manager Steve McGrath also announced the architects for the new Cultural & Civic Space will be BVN Architecture.
Announcements on the night included the Gallery’s own National Still Life Award has increased to become a $30,000 prize in 2019 thanks to generous sponsors including the Friends.
New Year New Work is open at the regional gallery until March 2nd. To support future gallery events and initiatives, become a member of the Friends: http://www.friendschrg.com.au
