Is internal party polling showing a ‘swing away’ from State and Federal Governments in coastal northern NSW?

Sources tell the CoffsCoast Outlook that internal ALP polling shows a sizeable swing to both ALP and Independent candidates in Mid-North and North Coast state and federal NSW seats.

This comes ‘hot on the heels’ of this story sourced from the Weekend Australian of 9-10 February last stating the National Party is finding a similar trend in the federal seat of Cowper https://coffscoastoutlook.com.au/nationals-could-struggle-to-hold-cowper-and-page-internal-polling/

It is understood that ALP internal polling done last week shows both Tony Judge (ALP – pictured below) and Sally Townley (Independent) are in a position to take the Coffs Harbour seat in the State election due on Saturday 23 March.

In addition Outlook understands that the same polling shows a big swing to the ALP on two party preferred terms across all North Coast NSW seats at both levels.

Individual seat polling can be ‘notoriously variable’ so such stories do need to be treated with some caution.

However if increased visits to this region by opposition spokespeople and increased resources become apparent then it will be fair to say that this story may well ‘have legs’.

This comes at the same time that a new Independent, Ann Leonard, has announced she will be contesting the state seat of Coffs Harbour in March. See: https://coffscoastoutlook.com.au/why-im-running-as-an-independent-in-the-state-election-ann-leonard/
