Increased oncology funding for Kempsey “most welcome” – Oakeshott

Independent Candidate for Cowper, Rob Oakeshott, has welcomed the pre-election announcement of funding to build an oncology unit at Kempsey District Hospital.

“This is a welcome addition to the Macleay Valley and will network well with the cancer centres in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour,” said Mr Oakeshott.

“I am sure the Greens, National Party and Labor will also endorse this project and make sure it happens, regardless of who wins the seat of Cowper or who wins national Government.

“Importantly, it is another example of how political competition forces Government to take the needs of our region seriously,” Oakeshott said.

“Strong Independent MPs in our political landscape mean the parties cannot take electoral support for granted and feel under pressure to deliver on long-needed services and facilities.”

“We could make this happen all the time, not just at election time, if people choose to vote Independent in a few weeks. We will not only establish this oncology unit, we can expand other services and fill glaring gaps – like the need for acute mental health care,” said Oakeshott.

The above is a Press Release from the Oakeshott for Cowper election campaign team. Monday April 15 2019.
