The Harbour Knights have secured a remarkable 100% success rate in that all three of the new combined club’s teams are in their respective Grand Finals in the New England rugby competition this Saturday 25 September.
The Knights went into the change sheds in first grade during their do-or-die clash against tamworth in Armidale last Saturday 15 – 5 down and having secured only meagre posssion in the first forty minutes.
But whatever was in their oranges at half time did the trick, as the Knights put on a second-half display to ensure they will travel to Tamworth this coming weekend along with their third and second grade club mates to ensure the club will be fighting for the championship prizes in all three grades.
Second-half tries to the Knights’ Max Shaw, AJ Gilbert, Chris Watkins and Peter Uikelotu went unreplied to until the 78th minute. But by then it was all too little too late for the Tamworth Magpies, the only team to have previously beaten the Knights this year and who no doubt regret the missed chance to play a grand final at home.
The Knights now face the Walcha Rams in the Grand Final a mouth watering prospect given the two teams drew 31-31 in Round 2 in Coffs Harbour earlier in the year.
It has been a great year for the Knights and hopefully will get even better this coming Saturday.
Here is the final draw for the now sold out Grand Final day;
