Coffs Harbour airport hosts key aerial firefighter

The 737 Large Air Tanker (LAT) operating out of Coffs Harbour this fire season has already made 107 water bombing missions.

The LAT 125 operating out of Coffs Harbour Airport.

Last year the LAT made 125 missions statewide.

The LAT has only been operating in Coffs Harbour since August, and is expected to remain a key pillar in the firefighting effort for the rest of the bushfire season.

“The 737 at this stage can operate from Coffs Harbour, Williamtown RAAF Base, obviously our primary base is at Richmond RAAF Base and Canberra so there’s only a few of the airports that will take the 737,” RFS manager of State Operations and Aviation, Chief Superintendent Ben Millington said.
