Exciting news: Tomorrow night, Bellingen Shire Council will be voting on a motion to declare a climate emergency!
By the Coffs Coast Climate Action Group
This is hugely important and we encourage people to write to and/or call Councillors to support this – see contact details below.
This is part of a rapidly growing movement of local governments who are recognising the scale of the climate emergency and calling on all levels of government to prioritise action and committing to strong action themselves. Over 12 Australian councils, and 400 councils across the world, have passed climate emergency declaration motions (see http://www.caceonline.org/councils-that-have-declared.html)
The Bello Council meeting is this Wednesday in Chambers from 6pm. The agenda is attached or for the full business papers visit https://www.bellingen.nsw.gov.au/…/ordinary-meeting-council…
Members of the public are welcome to observe from the gallery and come and go as they need (i.e. you don’t need to stay for the whole meeting). You are also able to speak to an agenda item by registering with Council by 12 noon the day before the meeting (TODAY) using the information at https://www.bellingen.nsw.gov.au/…/Application%20to%20have%…
