$491m in budget to fund bypass tunnels.

The Federal Government will invest an extra $491 million toward the Coffs Harbour bypass project in last night’s budget.

The funding is part of a $2.7 billion infrastructure package, which will mainly deliver road projects in regional NSW. Cowper MP Pat Conaghan says he and the Coffs Harbour MP Gurmesh Singh lobbied for the additional funding to build the tunnels.

“That’s what the people of Coffs Harbour wanted, they wanted the tunnels and that’s exactly what they’ll get,” he says. “The promises were made and we ensured the full funding was there.”

  1. I wonder if Conaghan would be willing to provide verifiable details of the lobbying which he and Gurmesh have done, in order to secure this funding? I’m suggesting dates and times of meetings with the relevant decision-makers, and a quick precis of the matters discussed.

Why do I ask? It’s simply that I see Conaghan as having credibility issues, following the campaign his group conducted at the last election. Given that a litany of lies was used as a weapon against his political rival, how can we be sure that Conaghan is telling the truth now?
